France Loves Its Farms But Cannot Pay For Its Farmers Forever - Either Adapt Or Disappear
France has a love-hate relationship with its farmers but is hemmed in between European free market rules and a romantic view of a bucolic past, and refuses to take the painful decisions that are needed to solve the returning riddle -- either pay more for small-scale production or allow farms to take on a bigger scale. It is not a one-way street, French farmers cannot just expect to continue doing things they have done for ages and the rest of France and Europe to pick up the bill under pressure of seeing their hard-earned holidays drowned in manure.
