Crypto Tools Export: Commerce Department Withdraws Proposal, Promises Rewrite

The U.S. Department of Commerce has been deluged the last two months with comments from the cryptography community, after the Department?s Bureau of Industry Standards (BIS) issued proposed new export regulations covering, among other items, ?encryption and cryptanalysis? tools. These regulations were resoundingly criticized and have been withdrawn, with rewrite promised.
