Are Marketers Over-Hyping Marketing To Chief Marketers?

For a long time, the CIO and the CTO have been the traditional IT buyers in the top tier of an organization. However, this trend is slowly beginning to change. Speculations are rife as to whether CMOs are going to take over technology purchasing. In fact, there are strong indications that CMOs are poised to become the new tech purchasing decision makers. No wonder technology solution providers are clamoring to attract CMOs. I have done it, and chances are if you are selling technology or tools to the enterprise, you have done it too. However, the big question for tech marketers is, are CMOs really the ones driving tech purchase decisions.
